Having worked with many amazing healthcare leaders to set strategies and recover struggling programmes, I started asking how they managed the digital and technical agenda. What became clear is that many Board members are not as confident in this subject as they are in the others they manage. When asked if they would cover for colleagues around the executive table all said yes, except when it came to the role of the CIO or Director of IT.
This makes sense when you consider that we all developed our knowledge of finance, clinical practice, operations and commissioning as we developed through our professional or management career. Information Technology was not usually an area we were deeply involved in and, to be fair, this area has evolved and matured at an exponential rate.
Only in relatively recent times has the industry surrounding Digital matured to the stage where we truly can deliver the vision and enable real transformation. The incredible work of colleagues during the Covid-19 pandemic has shown us just the tip of the iceberg.
It is no longer appropriate to delegate the Digital agenda away from the Board. It is too important and too entwined with every aspect of all our lives.
Our passion is to equip board leaders with the skills and knowledge to navigate this agenda with confidence and ensure their organisation is putting in place the building blocks to make it fit for the future.
Digital Health Advisory does not aim to do it for you, but hopes to equip you and support you to shape the right direction for your organisation and for your population.
